<p> </p><p>We鈥檙e proud to announce the publication of joint research on FLuID (Federated Learning Using Information Distillation) in Nature Machine Intelligence. This innovative approach has the potential to reshape how industries like pharmaceuticals collaborate while safeguarding sensitive data.</p><p>A key challenge for AI in scientific research is accessing high-quality data for impactful models. Valuable knowledge often remains locked in confidential corporate data silos, despite industries being more open to sharing non-competitive insights. Federated learning allows knowledge sharing while preserving data privacy but has limitations.</p><article data-quickedit-entity-id="media/47197" class="align-right media media--type-image media--view-mode-default">

<p>In the publication we introduce FLuID (federated learning using information distillation) tailored to drug discovery to maintain data privacy. Validated through public data and real-world collaboration among eight pharmaceutical companies, FLuID addresses domain shift challenges and enhances knowledge sharing. This leads to improved models for biological activity predictions, paving the way for a new generation of models with better performance and broader applicability.</p><p>Here鈥檚 how it works. Instead of sharing raw data, companies train private, local models and use them to annotate a shared public dataset. These annotations are then combined, creating a powerful blend of insights that organizations can leverage collaboratively. The process ensures complete privacy while producing models that outperform those built from individual datasets.</p><p>FLuID has already demonstrated its impact. This week 金禾娱乐城 joined the OpenFold Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Consortium. Joining this consortium reinforces our commitment to innovation in drug discovery and an aim to address the unmet medical needs of patients. <br>
<br>
Participation in the consortium will help to enhance digital molecular design at 金禾娱乐城, using the power of deep learning, whilst contributing to the advancement of open-source research to the wider scientific community. Collaboration and partnerships are key to accelerate the impact of new technologies particularly in the rapidly evolving fields of artificial intelligence and computer-aided drug design (CADD). <br>
<br>
The application of digital design at the molecular level has already enabled the discovery of some of our biologics-based treatments at 金禾娱乐城. Joining the OpenFold consortium will help 金禾娱乐城 to further contribute to the understanding of how and why molecules bind, in a collaborative, pre-competitive environment. The consortium will aid accurate state-of-the-art AI based structure prediction and assessment of interactions between protein:protein and protein:small molecules to deliver not only open science and innovation but also assist the design of novel treatments.</p>

The same pursuit of innovation and desire to challenge our status-quo, inspired and guided our journey into adeno-associated viral vector (AAV) gene therapy. We believe that this type of therapy will further enable our transition from symptomatic treatments to disease-modifying and potentially curative solutions. Initially we envision these solutions for well-defined monogenic patient populations, but with the ambition to address complex, multifactorial conditions in the future.<br>

For over 30 years 金禾娱乐城 has worked in the field of epilepsy and our commitment has never been stronger. We are working towards a future where we can impact the underlying causes of certain epilepsies and change the course of disease. But such innovation isn鈥檛 easy, so we work hard at creating the right surroundings and culture that nurtures and fosters innovation. We will monitor for new disruptive technologies, expand our therapeutic modality platforms, and seek out partners that can help us pioneer new approaches to drug discovery.<br>

So, we are pleased with the <a href="https://new.gliapharm.com/collaborationucb/">recent news</a> that 金禾娱乐城 entered a drug discovery collaboration with GliaPharm. Co-founded by Prof. Pierre Magistretti, GliaPharm develops treatments for neurological and psychiatric disorders. Their therapeutic approach is to target glial cells, the 鈥渟upport cells鈥� of neurons, and to develop new drugs that target glia-mediated pathways as agents for neuroprotection and maintenance of cognitive functions. Under the collaboration, GliaPharm will use their proprietary GliaX technology platform to validate a series of therapeutic targets that we believe will enhance 金禾娱乐城's efforts in discovering drugs for epilepsy.<br>

When you look at collaborations like this and the connectivity we have between our people, disciplines and technology, we think it鈥檚 a powerful R&D mix that we hope will enable us to develop solutions that move from symptomatic relief to those that could address the underlying causes of certain epilepsies.<br>

<p>At 金禾娱乐城, our aim is to amplify the power of scientific innovation through digital transformation, ensuring we deliver the best individual experience so patients can live their best lives. As part of that effort, we are integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across the research and development organization to bring accelerated solutions to patients with unmet needs. </p>
<p>In drug discovery, specifically, we鈥檙e using AI methodologies to enhance 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 data science strategy. We want to increase the impact of a treatment through a deeper understanding of the biological causes of the disease and systematically provide better research data-driven insights to enable the faster discovery of therapeutic molecules. </p>
<p>To aid us in this research, <a href="/stories-media/Press-Releases/article/金禾娱乐城-and-Microsoft-Expand-Collaboration-to-Accelerate-Drug-Discovery-and-Development">we announced an expanded multi-year, strategic collaboration</a> to combine Microsoft鈥檚 computational services, cloud, and AI with 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 drug discovery and development capabilities. As several drug discovery activities require the analysis of high-dimensional data sets or multi-modal unstructured information, Microsoft鈥檚 platform can support 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 scientists, including its data scientists, to discover new medicines in a more efficient and innovative way.</p>
<p>Our first use case is related to our Targeted Protein Degradation platform, where we are using AI-enabled workflows to better and more quickly collect information around disease-relevant biology and potential molecules of therapeutic value. Supported by Microsoft鈥檚 data science capabilities, our researchers aspire to ask questions on a whole new scale, and to review and compare millions of scientific literature in a more efficient manner.<br>

By using advanced analytics, researchers can analyze and synthesize decades of scientific knowledge faster, with better interconnectivity to uncover underlying trends. Based on such extensive knowledge, scientists can make more informed data-driven decisions in the search of new medicines. </p>
<p>In addition to the scientific journey we have started here, this collaboration is also a cultural journey, exposing our industry to the novel solutions and enabling technologies provided by our partners in the technology sector, and inviting our partners to tackle more scientific challenges we face.</p>
