This is in large part down to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data generation, processing and computing speeds, which make the impossible, possible. For example, AI can help describe the structural connections between atoms and molecules and optimize desirable properties for drugs. We can now sequence the hundreds of amino acids in each and every protein. Then, informed by AI, we can edit antibody sequences to be more stable and effective against disease-causing proteins. AI can also interpret the health of individual cells and - using this information - we can gain a deeper understanding of disease biology and pathology, and how drugs may be able to reverse it.<br> <br> At the clinical trials stage, advanced AI can help to keep track of treatment schedules and trial recruitment, help to make trials easier to access for patients, and make the data easier to access for physicians. This is all a work in progress, we are constantly 鈥榯raining鈥� and advancing the capabilities of our AI models, with each new discovery and input of data, AI is learning and getting more efficient.<br> <br> But the value of AI for patients, now and in the future, is undeniable 鈥搕he more efficient use of genetic data, and the modelling of disease pathways and gene sequences all help us to identify exactly what the patient needs so that we can works towards individualise treatment. It鈥檚 also removing the barriers imposed by ethnicity or geography, because we now have access to, and an understanding of, much larger data sets.<br> <br> AI shows us not only the power of digital technology but also the power of collaboration 鈥� our chemists and biologists are working side by side and trusting our data scientists to empower scientific research.<br> <br> AI is not without its challenges of course 鈥� it is difficult to define a 鈥榞old standard鈥� for the pharma domain, particularly given the rate of progress, so there is a test-and-learn approach which must be adopted when analysing and revaluating our AI models. Attention must be paid to any bias embedded in AI frameworks, making sure that they are generated with comprehensive and 'clean' data.<br> <br> Ultimately though, we believe that innovations like AI will help enable new discoveries and accelerate drug development, all for the benefit of people suffering from disease. The digitalisation of patient records and clinical trials, the advent of cloud computing, the growth of wearable devices and the medical Internet of Things (mIoT) has transformed clinical development with an explosion of data.<br> <br> In development phase, our Statistical Science &amp; Innovation group at 金禾娱乐城, recently filed a patent application centred around an improved machine learning method. The application has been designed to search through a large hypothesis space to identify the most valuable pieces of information and allows AI to predict an outcome or provide decision guidance. As several drug discovery activities require the analysis of high-dimensional data sets or multi-modal unstructured information, Microsoft鈥檚 platform can support 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 scientists, including its data scientists, to discover new medicines in a more efficient and innovative way.</p> <p>Our first use case is related to our Targeted Protein Degradation platform, where we are using AI-enabled workflows to better and more quickly collect information around disease-relevant biology and potential molecules of therapeutic value. Supported by Microsoft鈥檚 data science capabilities, our researchers aspire to ask questions on a whole new scale, and to review and compare millions of scientific literature in a more efficient manner.<br> <br> By using advanced analytics, researchers can analyze and synthesize decades of scientific knowledge faster, with better interconnectivity to uncover underlying trends. We鈥檙e working hard to increase the impact of a treatment through a deeper understanding of the biological causes of disease, systematically provide better research data-driven insights to enable the faster discovery of therapeutic molecules, and improve a patient鈥檚 overall journey.<br><br>As part of that work, we recently entered a new multi-year, strategic collaboration with Microsoft, to combine their Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and cutting-edge platforms to discover and develop new medicines in a more efficient and innovative way.<br><br><b id="ext-gen842">Development<br></b>In the development of new medicines, we digitalize our clinical study protocols and have provided decentralized clinical trials, which have resulted in the continuity of patient care through remote visits even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Gaining real-time access to patient feedback enrolled in our clinical trials is important to us, and we often use patient experience surveys to help us better understand the patient experience. For one of our key assets, the results were outstanding, with a NPS score of 53, far exceeding the industry benchmark of 22 specific to the indication. This tells us we are on the right track with enhancing the patient鈥檚 overall experience as they embark on this important part of their health care journey.<br><br><b>Go-to-Market and Digital Care Transformation</b><br>In the delivery of medicines and solutions to the market, we鈥檝e expanded our use and mix of distinctive&nbsp; channels and of predictive analytics to generate a better, more tailored, experience for our customers.&nbsp; This has become even more important during the pandemic as we understand changing physician needs. We have been reimagining frontline ways of working in several markets, with eager adoption of new tools by our colleagues in the field. This promises to result in&nbsp; more fulfilling work, a leading capability, and an increasingly effective go-to-market model.<br><br>We also recently announced the launch of Nile AI, Inc., a new independent company created to improve care for people living with epilepsy, their caregivers, and healthcare providers. Nile is developing an epilepsy care management platform that serves as a digital extension of the healthcare provider and provides patients with peace of mind between consultations, with the ultimate goal of shortening the path to optimal care.<br><br><b>Partnering for Impact</b><br>As we continue to transform the way care is delivered, we believe that partnering can make a greater impact. Our collaboration with MyHealthTeams, an organization that creates social networks for people living with chronic conditions, has enabled us to contribute to their well-being and access to information&nbsp; and to gain insights into their experience of learning, treating and and coping with their disease. For instance, the MySpondylitisTeam, which focuses on spondyloarthritis, is an active patient community started in early 2018 with more than 42,000 members.<br><br>Through our work with Ali Health in China, a digital healthcare provider, we鈥檙e also exploring an innovative service model for the intelligent management of chronic diseases like epilepsy. As the first step of the strategic agreement, 金禾娱乐城 has created an "Epilepsy Care on Alipay" account on the Alipay app to serve epilepsy patients and provide cloud-based diagnosis, treatment, and medication delivery to improve the overall patient experience.<br><br>Partnering has been central to building and scaling target digital capabilities and delivering promising results rapidly, to further support this journey of change. We鈥檙e combining our deep knowledge in bioscience with Microsoft鈥檚 unmatched expertise in computer science and AI to reinvent how we create new medicines.<br><br>To give you a bit of history, our new collaboration with Microsoft builds on a series of work we鈥檝e been doing with Microsoft, of which one was the recent COVID Moonshot project. Our medicinal and computational chemists contributed compound designs to this worldwide open-science project to create an orally bioavailable anti-viral for COVID-19.<br><br>We collaborated with Microsoft AI for Health during this project, using Microsoft Azure to complete an extensive computational screening and compound design. And I am proud to say we contributed the most potent series of compounds to the project. What鈥檚 more, we completed the screening and compound design in just three days鈥攖hanks to the support of Microsoft鈥檚 technology.<br> <br>After all, many areas of drug discovery require us to analyze high-dimensional datasets or multi-modal unstructured information. And Microsoft鈥檚 applied scientists and AI algorithms can help us discover new correlations and patterns within those high-dimensional datasets and multi-modal information in a relatively short space of time.<br><br>These discoveries could help us in so many different ways. For example, they could help us explore a vast chemical space, test many hypotheses and identify more effective molecules. Or they could help us bring new therapeutics to market quicker.<br><br>They could also help us identify the causes of disease at a molecular level or understand what makes a patient鈥檚 journey unique. And that would allow us to personalize and differentiate therapeutics so that they have a bigger impact on our patients鈥� lives鈥攁nd do that in a sustainable way.<br><br><div id="ext-gen813">We are standing at the edge of a new beginning in medicine development. To that end, we are excited to collaborate with doc.ai, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) platform that specializes in the capture of real-world data. The goal of this collaboration is to increase our understanding of the nuances and complexities of myasthenia gravis (MG) so that we can ultimately develop better treatments for patients.<br><br>Together, doc.ai and 金禾娱乐城 will launch an at-home digital health trial app designed to detect facial muscle changes and vocal muscle weakness in people with MG and build an AI model that can predict symptom patterns and flares. Participants will document their symptoms through a daily survey as well as audio and video recordings twice a week and track other health information, such as exercise and diet, to provide an accurate picture of their health. Ultimately, this AI technology may help people with MG track their disease progression and make informed decisions on when to push themselves and when to rest.<br><br>MG is a rare, autoimmune, neuromuscular condition where the body鈥檚 immune system mistakenly targets the connection between the nerves and the muscles. The most common symptoms of MG are muscle weakness and fatigue; however, symptoms can vary greatly, which can cause profound unpredictability. The lack of understanding surrounding the triggers for intermittent worsening of symptoms can significantly affect the disease experience. Improving understanding about the day-to-day experience of living with MG is urgently needed. Only then can we fully appreciate the impact of uncontrolled MG on patients and accelerate better outcomes.<br><br>金禾娱乐城鈥檚 research collaboration with doc.ai is the first of its kind. By leveraging the power of doc.ai鈥檚 cutting-edge technology in combination with our expertise in neurology and rare disease, we hope to optimize care for people with MG.<br><br><div id="ext-gen1096">The digital health trial for MG is now open and is enrolling up to 100 participants through 2021. The treatment journey is often long and complex with delays, misdiagnoses, and ineffective treatment.
