Here at 金禾娱乐城, we see 鈥榠nnovation鈥� as inventing something new and useful. And in no field is that more relevant than in that of medicine 鈥� something 鈥榥ew鈥� could be a disease modifying medicine, and something 鈥榰seful鈥� could be the novel way in which we discover it.

Innovative digital technology is undoubtedly transforming how we treat and manage disease. This is in large part down to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data generation, processing and computing speeds, which make the impossible, possible. For example, AI can help describe the structural connections between atoms and molecules and optimize desirable properties for drugs. We can now sequence the hundreds of amino acids in each and every protein. Then, informed by AI, we can edit antibody sequences to be more stable and effective against disease-causing proteins. AI can also interpret the health of individual cells and - using this information - we can gain a deeper understanding of disease biology and pathology, and how drugs may be able to reverse it.

At the clinical trials stage, advanced AI can help to keep track of treatment schedules and trial recruitment, help to make trials easier to access for patients, and make the data easier to access for physicians. This is all a work in progress, we are constantly 鈥榯raining鈥� and advancing the capabilities of our AI models, with each new discovery and input of data, AI is learning and getting more efficient.

But the value of AI for patients, now and in the future, is undeniable 鈥搕he more efficient use of genetic data, and the modelling of disease pathways and gene sequences all help us to identify exactly what the patient needs so that we can works towards individualise treatment. It鈥檚 also removing the barriers imposed by ethnicity or geography, because we now have access to, and an understanding of, much larger data sets.

AI shows us not only the power of digital technology but also the power of collaboration 鈥� our chemists and biologists are working side by side and trusting our data scientists to empower scientific research.

AI is not without its challenges of course 鈥� it is difficult to define a 鈥榞old standard鈥� for the pharma domain, particularly given the rate of progress, so there is a test-and-learn approach which must be adopted when analysing and revaluating our AI models. Attention must be paid to any bias embedded in AI frameworks, making sure that they are generated with comprehensive and 'clean' data.

Ultimately though, we believe that innovations like AI will help enable new discoveries and accelerate drug development, all for the benefit of people suffering from disease. That鈥檚 why innovation is our driving force at 金禾娱乐城. We're filled with anticipation about what lies ahead!

Embracing digital business transformation to accelerate solutions

金禾娱乐城 is making strides through digital business transformation to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations, creating new 鈥� or modifying existing 鈥� processes and tools to deliver additional value for patients and stakeholders.

Discovery

In drug discovery, we鈥檙e implementing digital business transformation initiatives with the aim of increasing the speed at which we deliver solutions to patients. The 金禾娱乐城 Moonshot effort, developed in partnership with PostEra 鈥� a start-up biotech company that maps routes for drug synthesis using AI algorithms 鈥� is working to test and refine crowdsourced drug designs, sourced from medicinal chemists, to develop an anti-viral treatment for COVID-19.

The initiative is not only providing better research data-driven insights to fast-track the discovery of therapeutic molecules and improve patient journeys, but also helping to find 鈥減ockets鈥� that may not have been seen before and re-envision 鈥渦ndruggable targets鈥�.

Efficiency

The last decade has introduced new computational methods which increase the cost-effectiveness and efficiency in the pharmaceutical industry. The digitalisation of patient records and clinical trials, the advent of cloud computing, the growth of wearable devices and the medical Internet of Things (mIoT) has transformed clinical development with an explosion of data.

In development phase, our Statistical Science & Innovation group at 金禾娱乐城, recently filed a patent application centred around an improved machine learning method. The application has been designed to search through a large hypothesis space to identify the most valuable pieces of information and allows AI to predict an outcome or provide decision guidance. This innovation has already been used to inform patient stratification, clinical trial design and precision medicine approaches for Parkinson鈥檚 disease and epilepsy.

Being Data-Enabled

At 金禾娱乐城 we use data analysis to answer questions and inform better decisions on behalf of patients and caregivers, which has had a tremendous impact on how we work, as well as how efficiently we can deliver results. For example, the use of analytics and machine learning throughout our drug discovery, development, and innovation processes means we can optimise the way clinical trials are designed. This includes patient selection, automated analysis of trial data and enhanced logistics operations. All this work is expanding, allowing 金禾娱乐城 to build a platform to maximise the value of our data for patients.

Connected

Collaboration is an important component of innovation and scientific breakthroughs within 金禾娱乐城, which is why we partnered with several of the top digital health companies in 2021.

One key example is our partnership with Microsoft, which combines our deep knowledge in bioscience with Microsoft鈥檚 unmatched expertise in computer science and artificial intelligence (AI) to reinvent how we create new medicines. The ambition is to establish a 360掳 data-enabled view of patient populations to discover and develop medicines faster for people living with severe diseases. This collaboration opportunity with Microsoft will provide AI technology to work alongside 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 scientists and data specialists, to break boundaries and allow 金禾娱乐城 to discover new correlations and patterns critical to finding innovative and highly individualized medicines.

At 金禾娱乐城, our aim is to amplify the power of scientific innovation through digital transformation, ensuring we deliver the best individual experience so patients can live their best lives. As part of that effort, we are integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across the research and development organization to bring accelerated solutions to patients with unmet needs.

In drug discovery, specifically, we鈥檙e using AI methodologies to enhance 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 data science strategy. We want to increase the impact of a treatment through a deeper understanding of the biological causes of the disease and systematically provide better research data-driven insights to enable the faster discovery of therapeutic molecules.

To aid us in this research, we announced an expanded multi-year, strategic collaboration to combine Microsoft鈥檚 computational services, cloud, and AI with 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 drug discovery and development capabilities. As several drug discovery activities require the analysis of high-dimensional data sets or multi-modal unstructured information, Microsoft鈥檚 platform can support 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 scientists, including its data scientists, to discover new medicines in a more efficient and innovative way.

Our first use case is related to our Targeted Protein Degradation platform, where we are using AI-enabled workflows to better and more quickly collect information around disease-relevant biology and potential molecules of therapeutic value. Supported by Microsoft鈥檚 data science capabilities, our researchers aspire to ask questions on a whole new scale, and to review and compare millions of scientific literature in a more efficient manner.

By using advanced analytics, researchers can analyze and synthesize decades of scientific knowledge faster, with better interconnectivity to uncover underlying trends. Based on such extensive knowledge, scientists can make more informed data-driven decisions in the search of new medicines.

In addition to the scientific journey we have started here, this collaboration is also a cultural journey, exposing our industry to the novel solutions and enabling technologies provided by our partners in the technology sector, and inviting our partners to tackle more scientific challenges we face.

Our approach to this digital business transformation essentially focuses on selectively applying advanced analytics and digital engagement tools, at scale, and on developing digital care solutions for multisided digital platform ecosystems to transform the patient experience. We also believe in partnering with pioneers at the forefront of technology and data-powered innovation for greater impact to help drive our healthcare system鈥檚 evolution further. Discovery
In drug discovery, we are using computational design and artificial intelligence to more efficiently identify compounds that have a higher chance of leading to effective therapies. We鈥檙e working hard to increase the impact of a treatment through a deeper understanding of the biological causes of disease, systematically provide better research data-driven insights to enable the faster discovery of therapeutic molecules, and improve a patient鈥檚 overall journey.

As part of that work, we recently entered a new multi-year, strategic collaboration with Microsoft, to combine their Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and cutting-edge platforms to discover and develop new medicines in a more efficient and innovative way.

Development
In the development of new medicines, we digitalize our clinical study protocols and have provided decentralized clinical trials, which have resulted in the continuity of patient care through remote visits even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Gaining real-time access to patient feedback enrolled in our clinical trials is important to us, and we often use patient experience surveys to help us better understand the patient experience. For one of our key assets, the results were outstanding, with a NPS score of 53, far exceeding the industry benchmark of 22 specific to the indication. This tells us we are on the right track with enhancing the patient鈥檚 overall experience as they embark on this important part of their health care journey.

Go-to-Market and Digital Care Transformation
In the delivery of medicines and solutions to the market, we鈥檝e expanded our use and mix of distinctive channels and of predictive analytics to generate a better, more tailored, experience for our customers. This has become even more important during the pandemic as we understand changing physician needs. We have been reimagining frontline ways of working in several markets, with eager adoption of new tools by our colleagues in the field. This promises to result in more fulfilling work, a leading capability, and an increasingly effective go-to-market model.

We also recently announced the launch of Nile AI, Inc., a new independent company created to improve care for people living with epilepsy, their caregivers, and healthcare providers. Nile is developing an epilepsy care management platform that serves as a digital extension of the healthcare provider and provides patients with peace of mind between consultations, with the ultimate goal of shortening the path to optimal care.

Partnering for Impact
As we continue to transform the way care is delivered, we believe that partnering can make a greater impact. Our collaboration with MyHealthTeams, an organization that creates social networks for people living with chronic conditions, has enabled us to contribute to their well-being and access to information and to gain insights into their experience of learning, treating and and coping with their disease. For instance, the MySpondylitisTeam, which focuses on spondyloarthritis, is an active patient community started in early 2018 with more than 42,000 members.

Through our work with Ali Health in China, a digital healthcare provider, we鈥檙e also exploring an innovative service model for the intelligent management of chronic diseases like epilepsy. As the first step of the strategic agreement, 金禾娱乐城 has created an "Epilepsy Care on Alipay" account on the Alipay app to serve epilepsy patients and provide cloud-based diagnosis, treatment, and medication delivery to improve the overall patient experience.

Partnering has been central to building and scaling target digital capabilities and delivering promising results rapidly, to further support this journey of change. In many cases, we decided to pair our knowledge of a patient population with the acumen and capabilities of digital health players.

The rapid integration of digital innovation into all aspects of our business is a testament to how quickly we can adapt to the needs of patients and the ever-changing environment. Much of this stems from the size of 金禾娱乐城鈥� large enough to make an impact, but small enough to remain agile. Our ambition at 金禾娱乐城 is to transform the lives of people living with severe diseases in immunology and neurology. We want to use all the scientific advances at our disposal to develop life-changing therapies that will help patients live their lives to their fullest.

We also believe in partnership for greater impact. Our scientists collaborate with an open approach to innovation. And that equips us to meet today鈥檚 biggest healthcare challenges.

And that is why I am so excited about our new collaboration with Microsoft. We鈥檙e combining our deep knowledge in bioscience with Microsoft鈥檚 unmatched expertise in computer science and AI to reinvent how we create new medicines.

To give you a bit of history, our new collaboration with Microsoft builds on a series of work we鈥檝e been doing with Microsoft, of which one was the recent COVID Moonshot project. Our medicinal and computational chemists contributed compound designs to this worldwide open-science project to create an orally bioavailable anti-viral for COVID-19.

We collaborated with Microsoft AI for Health during this project, using Microsoft Azure to complete an extensive computational screening and compound design. And I am proud to say we contributed the most potent series of compounds to the project. What鈥檚 more, we completed the screening and compound design in just three days鈥攖hanks to the support of Microsoft鈥檚 technology.

After all, many areas of drug discovery require us to analyze high-dimensional datasets or multi-modal unstructured information. And Microsoft鈥檚 applied scientists and AI algorithms can help us discover new correlations and patterns within those high-dimensional datasets and multi-modal information in a relatively short space of time.

These discoveries could help us in so many different ways. For example, they could help us explore a vast chemical space, test many hypotheses and identify more effective molecules. Or they could help us bring new therapeutics to market quicker.

They could also help us identify the causes of disease at a molecular level or understand what makes a patient鈥檚 journey unique. And that would allow us to personalize and differentiate therapeutics so that they have a bigger impact on our patients鈥� lives鈥攁nd do that in a sustainable way.

We are standing at the edge of a new beginning in medicine development. With Microsoft at our side, we will harness data and technology alongside human expertise and creativity to uncover new insights, understand diseases better, enhance patient experiences and develop more personal and more effective patient care.

At 金禾娱乐城, we believe in the power of partnerships and using data and technology with purpose to solve some of the most complex challenges in healthcare. To that end, we are excited to collaborate with doc.ai, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) platform that specializes in the capture of real-world data. The goal of this collaboration is to increase our understanding of the nuances and complexities of myasthenia gravis (MG) so that we can ultimately develop better treatments for patients.

Together, doc.ai and 金禾娱乐城 will launch an at-home digital health trial app designed to detect facial muscle changes and vocal muscle weakness in people with MG and build an AI model that can predict symptom patterns and flares. Participants will document their symptoms through a daily survey as well as audio and video recordings twice a week and track other health information, such as exercise and diet, to provide an accurate picture of their health. Ultimately, this AI technology may help people with MG track their disease progression and make informed decisions on when to push themselves and when to rest.

MG is a rare, autoimmune, neuromuscular condition where the body鈥檚 immune system mistakenly targets the connection between the nerves and the muscles. The most common symptoms of MG are muscle weakness and fatigue; however, symptoms can vary greatly, which can cause profound unpredictability. The lack of understanding surrounding the triggers for intermittent worsening of symptoms can significantly affect the disease experience. Improving understanding about the day-to-day experience of living with MG is urgently needed. Only then can we fully appreciate the impact of uncontrolled MG on patients and accelerate better outcomes.

金禾娱乐城鈥檚 research collaboration with doc.ai is the first of its kind. By leveraging the power of doc.ai鈥檚 cutting-edge technology in combination with our expertise in neurology and rare disease, we hope to optimize care for people with MG.

In line with 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 digital business transformation, the goal of the collaboration is to jointly develop unique solutions that combine clinical, digital, omics, and other data sets 鈥� along with the required expertise 鈥� to identify which patients will respond best and ultimately, deliver better patient outcomes.

The first project will focus on Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), also known as acne inversa, an immunological skin disease that results in debilitating quality of life for people living with the disease. The treatment journey is often long and complex with delays, misdiagnoses, and ineffective treatment. The global prevalence of HS varies in populations around the world with reports citing up to 1% are affected.

金禾娱乐城 and Stanford Medicine plan to explore digital phenotyping, computational discovery of pathogenic mechanisms, and the disease burden and societal experience for people living with severe diseases like HS. Projects will begin in early 2021 with future projects focusing on immunology, neurology, and other emerging areas of interest.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the face of medicines development. Machine learning tools are being used in drug design to help bring more effective and safer therapies to patients.

While AI approaches to developing medicines is still in its early days, it is moving forward at great pace and 金禾娱乐城 sees new opportunities to bring value to patients by staying at the cutting edge of this exciting field.

At the heart of our work in this area is partnership. We are pairing our expertise with the knowhow of technology companies and universities to gain early insights into the effectiveness and safety of potential new medicines.

金禾娱乐城 works with Iktos, a Paris-based AI company focused on deep-learning based de novo drug design to accelerate drug discovery in neurology and immunology; we collaborate with Accenture to speed up data processing of patient safety reports; and with the EFFIRIS consortium to predict the safety profile of medicines including cardiac safety before they are tested in human trials.

The latest example of our work in this field is our new partnership with Cresset and Inocardia. In a collaboration which also includes the University of Coventry and is supported by EIT Digital, this diverse group will develop improved computational methods for cardiac safety assessment. Our shared goal is to identify potential problems early, thus speeding up the development of safe and effective solutions for patients.

The new one-year project, along with existing partnerships in this area, show 金禾娱乐城鈥檚 determination to offer scientific leadership and to embrace innovation. With more than 90 years of experience behind us, we remain committed to improving the lives of people with severe diseases using the latest technological solutions 鈥� in medical research, in machine learning and wherever else we might find the knowledge needed to deliver for patients.
