Through its Community Health Fund, ��ֳ� supports organizations dedicated to improving the physical, social, and psychological well-being of young people aged 15 to 24 with mental disorders across the globe. As we embrace a new year, we are excited to share the news that the ��ֳ� Community Health Fund is extending its support to those who need it most. Building on the success of the past years, the Community Health Fund will contribute over €2.6 million to 61 non-profit associations worldwide in 2024.

Supporting Communities Globally
The selected organizations span across diverse regions, including Belgium, the United Kingdom, the United States, and more. This year's grantees have been carefully chosen to make a significant impact on various community health aspects.

Empowering Inspiring Organizations
"We are so happy that we are able to help young people around the world. The associations that we're partnering with are incredibly inspiring, and they are able to make a real, positive impact in the field of mental health," says Xavier Hormaechea, Secretary General of the ��ֳ� Community Health Fund.

Allocation of Funds
Since its establishment in 2020, the ��ֳ� Community Health Fund has granted 9 million EUR to 204 mental health initiatives for vulnerable young people spanning across different countries globally. In 2024, the Fund will allocate a substantial budget of €2.6 million, distributed among 61 associations. Each organization will receive funding ranging from €10,000 to €50,000. This financial support enables these entities to continue their remarkable work in enhancing mental health and well-being globally.

“Recent years have been extraordinarily challenging for young people facing homelessness across the South West of England. The majority of young people in our services have experienced social isolation and mental health challenges, such as depression and anxiety, which is often a result of significant childhood trauma. Unfortunately, overlapping crises in our local economy, housing systems and health services mean that young people very often struggle to find the assistance they need. With generous support from the ��ֳ� Community Health Fund, 1625 Independent People will help young people to improve their mental health through our specialist Wellbeing Coaching, access positive social activities through our Engagement Programme and build trusting relationships through our Peer Support networks. It will also enable our Wellbeing Coaches to train and support colleagues across our charity to recognise and support young people’s mental health needs.” – Dom Wood, CEO of 1625 Independent People, a 2024 Community Health Fund grantee.

At ��ֳ�, we believe that companies must play a role in ensuring a sustainable future. And that means doing our part to help build a future for the most vulnerable in our communities. Beyond our business, we must seek to support those most at-risk in our communities.

Our goal is to work toward healthier communities in the countries where we operate. And we take a holistic view of physical and psychosocial well-being beyond our therapeutic areas when we talk about health.

While the global pandemic has affected us all deeply, analysis tells us that adolescents and young people are particularly affected. Family stress and social isolation only exacerbated their emotional difficulties. In addition to the fear of the virus and the deep uncertainty brought about by misinformation, many face economic insecurity.

Supporting those most at risk

The ��ֳ� Community Health Fund is a key part of our community involvement. The Fund is set up to support young people from the most vulnerable communities where ��ֳ� is active. And that includes racial and ethnic minorities, refugees and asylum seekers, those with disabilities and specific health conditions, those facing difficulties due to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and those who are socio-economically disadvantaged. So far we have been able to support nearly 100 projects since 2020 globally aimed at positively impacting the lives of those in our communities.

Our first call for projects, which closed in September 2020, aimed to support organizations and projects contributing to understanding and reducing the medium- and long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health of vulnerable young people. The response was phenomenal: 170 applications for support projects and 43 research projects from 24 different countries. We awarded a total of EUR 2,4 Million ($3 Million) to 44 inspiring support projects and six inspiring research projects.

Contributing around the world
Our second call for projects, which closed in July 2021, focused on the mental health of vulnerable young people aged 15 to 24.

Again, the response was phenomenal: 145 applications were received from organizations and projects positively impacting young people’s mental health. We’re proud to reveal that we are contributing grants to a total of 49 organizations and projects, grants of between €30,000 ($36,000) and €50,000 ($60,000) each.

From ‘Promoting Agency and Resilience Among Girls (PARAG) in urban slums in India’ through Mexico City’s ‘Fundación 5XDÍA AC’ to ‘Belgium Plays 4 Peace’, our grants are reaching organizations and projects around the world.

The size and broad reach of applications highlight how much young people across all corners of the globe need support. The pandemic continues to impact them. And while we are on the journey to recovery, recovering will take time. At ��ֳ�, we feel nobody should be left behind. Working together, we can build a stronger and more resilient future for all.

The global pandemic has affected our society deeply physically, socially, and psychologically. The mental health and well-being of whole societies have been impacted. COVID-19-related psychological distress is widespread, with many afraid of the virus itself or of isolation brought about by lockdowns and social distancing. In addition, there are those facing economic insecurity as an added factor. And all the while, misinformation is causing deep uncertainty.

Quantitative and qualitative analysis tells us adolescents and young people are particularly affected. Emotional difficulties felt by young people are being exacerbated by family stress and social isolation, with some facing increased abuse, disrupted education, and uncertainty about their futures.

This is precisely why we focused our second call for projects for our ��ֳ� Community Health Fund on the mental health of vulnerable young people aged between 15 and 24. This second call will be open from May 15 until July 15, 2021.

We are looking to contribute a total of approximately €2 Million ($2.4 Million) to support around 40 impact-driven organizations and projects (excluding research projects) aiming to make a positive difference to the mental health of young people with grants of between €30,000 ($36,000) and €50,000 ($60,000) each.

Our ��ֳ� Community Health Fund
We launched the ��ֳ� Community Health Fund in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support organizations that are active in communities where we have an office, addressing issues outside of our business scope. The pandemic only reinforced our commitment here at ��ֳ� to creating value for patients, now and into the future.

Managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, it aims to address health disparities among vulnerable populations. More specifically, the Fund wants to support young people from the most vulnerable communities where ��ֳ� is active, including racial and ethnic minorities, refugees and asylum seekers, those with disabilities and certain health conditions, those facing difficulties due to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and those who are socio-economically disadvantaged.

Our first call for projects, which closed in September 2020, aimed to support organizations and projects contributing to understanding and reducing the medium- and long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health of vulnerable young people. The size reflects the huge amount of support that vulnerable populations continue to need. The extent of the health and economic crisis we are living through continues to prove massive, and the journey to recovery will take time. By working together, we will not just recover – we can build a stronger and more resilient future.
